Time Displacement
A video effect that lets different parts of an image show different moments in time, creating rippling, wave-like or sliced motion. Slit-scan ancestors and software tools made it a favorite of 2010s experimental editors.

Spot it
- 01Wavy time ripples
- 02Ghosted body trails
- 03Sliced motion bands
Why it happens
A map assigns each pixel a time offset, and every pixel is read from a different frame in the buffer, so movement appears delayed in some regions and not in others.
Recreate it in Pixio
Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image with a time displacement effect: a smooth gradient wave sweeps across the frame so that different regions show different moments, creating rippling delayed trails, ghostly echoes of movement, and bands that appear to slide through time. Keep the effect fluid and hypnotic. Keep the original subject and composition.”
