Halation
A reddish-orange glow around bright highlights, caused by light bouncing inside color film. CineStill's 800T, introduced in 2012, made the effect a recognizable look in night photography.

Spot it
- 01Red-orange glow halos
- 02Bright neon highlights
- 03Soft tungsten night tones
Why it happens
Strong light passes through the emulsion, reflects off the film base and exposes the layers again nearby, and since red layers lie deepest the glow looks red.

Image edit prompt“Add film halation to this image: bright lights and highlights glow with a soft red-orange fringe that bleeds outward into the darker surroundings, tungsten color balance with cyan-leaning shadows, gentle grain and a slightly hazy night look. Keep the halos only around the brightest points. Keep the original subject and composition.”
