Depth-Map Portrait
A phone-camera feature that estimates scene depth and blurs the background to imitate a large-aperture lens. Dual-lens phones introduced portrait modes around 2016, and the look quickly spread.

Spot it
- 01Cut-out subject edges
- 02Smooth artificial blur
- 03Studio-style separation
Why it happens
Parallax or sensors estimate distance for each pixel, and a software blur grows with the difference from the focus distance, simulating shallow depth of field.

Image edit prompt“Apply a smartphone depth-map portrait effect to this image: the main subject sharp and clean, the background replaced by a smooth computational blur that increases with distance, soft studio-like light on the subject and slightly cut-out edges where depth is uncertain. Keep the original subject and composition.”
