Threshold
An image-editing operation that turns every pixel pure black or white depending on its brightness. In 1990s image editors it produced stark, photocopy-like graphics used in zines, stencils and punk flyers.

Spot it
- 01Pure black and white
- 02Hard jagged edges
- 03No gray tones
Why it happens
Each pixel’s brightness is compared with a cutoff value; anything darker becomes black and anything lighter becomes white, discarding all intermediate tones.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image with a hard threshold: every pixel becomes pure black or pure white, no gray anywhere, with stark rough-edged shapes like a high-contrast photocopy or stencil, shadows merging into solid black areas and highlights vanishing into white paper. Keep the original subject and composition.”
