Cross Processing
Developing film in the wrong chemistry, usually slide film in C-41 negative chemicals, for punchy distorted color. It became a 1990s fashion and club-photography look, known for wild contrast and green-yellow or magenta casts.

Spot it
- 01Acid yellow-green shadows
- 02Crushed high contrast
- 03Oversaturated color casts
Why it happens
Processing in mismatched chemicals changes each dye layer’s response, so the red, green and blue curves diverge and tint highlights and shadows in opposite colors.

Image edit prompt“Give this image a cross-processed slide film look: strong contrast, cyan-green tinted shadows, yellow-orange highlights, oversaturated reds and magentas, crushed blacks, slightly blown highlights, visible film grain and a mild vignette, like an expired slide developed in negative chemistry. Keep the original subject and composition.”
