Raycasting
A fast pseudo-3D rendering method that casts one ray per screen column across a flat grid map and draws a textured wall strip where it hits. id Software’s Wolfenstein 3D (1992) used it on ordinary PCs.

Spot it
- 01Flat textured wall strips
- 02Uniform floor and ceiling
- 03Right-angle corridors
Why it happens
For every screen column a ray travels through the map grid until it strikes a wall, and the hit distance sets the height of the vertical texture slice drawn.

Image edit prompt“Render this scene as a raycasting engine view: first-person perspective with flat, vertically textured walls at right angles, solid-color floor and ceiling, no sloped surfaces, low-resolution chunky pixels, darker shaded walls on one side and flat 2D sprites facing the camera. Keep the original subject and composition.”
