Random Walker Segmentation
An interactive segmentation algorithm introduced by Leo Grady in 2006. A few scribbled seeds are enough, and each remaining pixel joins the seed a random walker would most likely reach first, giving smooth, edge-aware regions.

Spot it
- 01Colored seed scribbles
- 02Smooth probability fills
- 03Boundaries stop at edges
Why it happens
Treats the image as a graph weighted by color similarity and computes, for every pixel, the probability that a random walk reaches each seed first, assigning the likeliest seed.

Image edit prompt“Show a random walker segmentation of this image: draw a few thin red and blue seed scribbles on the subject and background, then fill each region with a semi-transparent matching red or blue tone, with smooth blended boundaries that stop at strong edges. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
