SLIC Superpixels
Simple linear iterative clustering, published by Radhakrishna Achanta and colleagues in 2010–2012, groups pixels into compact, roughly equal patches that follow edges. It reduces an image to a few hundred regions for fast segmentation.

Spot it
- 01Honeycomb-like patches
- 02Thin boundary lines
- 03Flat averaged patch colors
Why it happens
Runs k-means clustering on color and position together, restricting each cluster's search to a nearby window, so patches stay compact while respecting color edges.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image into SLIC superpixels: divide it into about 300 compact, roughly equal irregular patches that follow object edges, fill each patch with its average color and draw thin white boundary lines between them. The result looks like a stained-glass mosaic. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
