Quickshift Superpixels
A mode-seeking segmentation method published by Andrea Vedaldi and Stefano Soatto in 2008. It groups pixels into irregular, edge-following superpixels that vary in size according to local detail.

Spot it
- 01Irregular patch mosaic
- 02Tree-like wiggly boundaries
- 03Varying patch sizes
Why it happens
Estimates a density over color and position, then links each pixel to the nearest neighbor with higher density, and cuts long links to form regions.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image into quickshift superpixels: divide it into irregular, organic patches that follow edges, with large patches in smooth areas and small ones in busy detail, fill each patch with its average color, and draw thin dark boundary lines between them. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
