Imagery from image-intensifier tubes that amplify faint light into a glowing green view. It became a familiar television look during the 1991 Gulf War, then spread to thrillers, documentaries and found-footage films.

Why it happens
A tube converts scarce photons into electrons, multiplies them, and strikes a green phosphor screen, producing a bright, grainy monochrome image that blooms around lights.
