Mean Shift Segmentation
A clustering method applied to images by Dorin Comaniciu and Peter Meer in 2002. It flattens regions toward their dominant color while keeping sharp boundaries, giving a smooth, posterized look.

Spot it
- 01Flat smooth color regions
- 02Sharp preserved edges
- 03Painterly posterized finish
Why it happens
Moves every pixel repeatedly to the average of nearby pixels in joint color and position space until it settles on a density peak, then groups pixels sharing a peak.

Image edit prompt“Apply mean shift segmentation to this image: flatten each region to a smooth uniform color while keeping object boundaries sharp, producing a posterized, painterly mosaic of broad color patches. Remove fine texture and noise but keep faces and main shapes legible. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
