Connected Components
The labeling of each group of touching pixels in a binary image as a separate object, with early algorithms studied by Azriel Rosenfeld and John Pfaltz in 1966. It underlies counting, blob analysis and cleanup.

Spot it
- 01Distinct flat color blobs
- 02Black background
- 03Tiny specks counted too
Why it happens
Scans the binary image and gives each foreground pixel the label of its connected neighbors, merging labels that turn out to belong to the same touching group.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image into labeled connected components: threshold it to black and white, then color every separate group of touching white pixels with its own distinct flat saturated color on a black background, so each object, letter or speck is a different color. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
