Histogram Equalization
A classic contrast technique that spreads an image's brightness values evenly across the full range. It rescues washed-out or underexposed photos, but can look harsh and exaggerate noise and flat areas.

Spot it
- 01Stretched harsh contrast
- 02Washed shadows lifted
- 03Noisy flat regions
Why it happens
Remaps every brightness level through the image's cumulative distribution function so the output histogram becomes approximately flat.

Image edit prompt“Apply global histogram equalization to this image: stretch the brightness so every tone from black to white is used evenly, lifting dark shadows and flattening bright areas. The result should look high-contrast, slightly harsh and over-processed, with amplified noise in smooth regions. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
