CLAHE Local Contrast
Contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization, refined by Karel Zuiderveld in 1994 from earlier adaptive methods. It boosts local contrast tile by tile while capping noise amplification, popular in medical imaging and low-light enhancement.

Spot it
- 01Punchy local contrast
- 02Revealed shadow detail
- 03Slightly gritty texture
Why it happens
Splits the image into small tiles, equalizes each tile's histogram with its peaks clipped at a limit, then blends neighboring tiles bilinearly to avoid visible seams.

Image edit prompt“Apply CLAHE local contrast enhancement to this image: dramatically reveal detail in shadows and highlights by boosting contrast tile by tile, so textures, fabric, foliage and skin pores pop. Keep a gritty, slightly over-processed clarity without halos or blown whites. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
