Gaussian Pyramid
A stack of images, each blurred and halved in size, introduced by Peter Burt and Edward Adelson in 1983. It lets algorithms analyze an image at many scales and underlies blending, matching and coarse-to-fine search.

Spot it
- 01Stack of shrinking copies
- 02Progressively softer detail
- 03Staircase layout on black
Why it happens
Smooths the image with a small Gaussian kernel and then discards every other row and column, repeating the step to build each smaller level.

Image edit prompt“Show a Gaussian pyramid of this image: place the full-size picture at left and progressively smaller, blurrier copies, each half the width and height of the last, stacked neatly beside it in a descending sequence on a black background with thin white borders. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
