Freelensing
A hands-on technique where the lens is detached and held slightly off the camera body, tilting focus and letting light leak in. Photographers embraced it in the 2010s for dreamy, unpredictable images.

Spot it
- 01Dreamy tilted focus
- 02Bright light leaks
- 03Soft blurred edges
Why it happens
Holding the lens away from the mount shifts and tilts its focal plane and lets stray light reach the sensor, so only a slice is sharp and washes of flare appear.

Image edit prompt“Make this image look like a freelensed photograph: only a diagonal slice of the frame in sharp focus, the rest dissolving into dreamy smeared blur, bright orange and pink light leaks washing across one side, lifted hazy shadows and a soft, imperfect, handmade look. Keep the original subject and composition.”
