FAST Corners
Features from Accelerated Segment Test, introduced by Edward Rosten and Tom Drummond in 2006. It is an extremely quick corner detector built for real-time tracking and the basis of many mobile vision systems.

Spot it
- 01Tiny colored corner dots
- 02Dense on busy textures
- 03Clustered neighboring points
Why it happens
Looks at a ring of sixteen pixels around a candidate and calls it a corner if a contiguous arc of them is all brighter or all darker than the center by a threshold.

Image edit prompt“Show FAST corner detection on this image: keep the original photo at reduced brightness and mark each detected corner with a tiny bright magenta dot, with points clustering tightly on textured, high-contrast areas and sharp vertices, and none on smooth surfaces. Dots are small and numerous. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
