Local Binary Pattern
A texture descriptor developed by Timo Ojala and colleagues in the 1990s. Each pixel is replaced by a code describing its neighbors, producing a grainy texture map widely used in face and material recognition.

Spot it
- 01Grainy gray texture codes
- 02Flat areas as uniform gray
- 03Edges as busy noise
Why it happens
Compares each pixel with its eight neighbors, writes a 1 where the neighbor is at least as bright and a 0 otherwise, and reads the eight bits as a number.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image into a Local Binary Pattern texture map: grayscale where every pixel value encodes its local brightness pattern. Smooth regions become uniform mid-tone, while edges, hair and skin texture turn into fine, high-frequency grain with sharp contrasting speckles. No color. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
