Active Contour Snake
A deformable curve introduced by Michael Kass, Andrew Witkin and Demetri Terzopoulos in 1987 that shrinks or expands until it locks onto an object boundary. It is used for outlining organs, cells and other smooth shapes.

Spot it
- 01Bright closed outline loop
- 02Control points on curve
- 03Hugging object boundary
Why it happens
Moves a closed curve to minimize an energy that rewards smoothness and alignment with strong image edges, balancing internal tension against external image forces.

Image edit prompt“Show an active contour snake on this image: keep the original photo and draw a single smooth closed yellow curve that tightly hugs the main subject's boundary, with small evenly spaced white control points along it. Optionally add faint dashed earlier iterations in orange outside it. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
