Trimap
A three-level map used as input to image matting that labels pixels as definite foreground, definite background or unknown. It tells the algorithm where to solve for fine transparency, such as around hair.

Spot it
- 01White, black, gray bands
- 02Gray unknown border strip
- 03Blocky simplified shapes
Why it happens
Marks the sure foreground as white and sure background as black, then leaves a band of mid-gray around the boundary where the matting algorithm must estimate transparency.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image into a trimap: three flat gray levels only. The sure subject interior is pure white, the sure background is pure black, and a uniform band of mid-gray about 30 pixels wide runs along the subject boundary, wider around hair and fine detail. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
