Thermal False Color
An infrared heat map that assigns colors to temperatures, with warm areas glowing yellow and white and cool ones deep purple. Affordable thermal cameras made it a familiar look in the 2020s.

Why it happens
An infrared sensor measures emitted heat, not visible light, and software maps each temperature to a color on a palette, so color represents warmth.
