Sprite Scaling
A pseudo-3D arcade technique that enlarges and shrinks flat bitmaps to fake depth. Yu Suzuki’s Sega games Space Harrier (1985) and OutRun (1986) used it to rush roadside objects and enemies toward the player at high speed.

Spot it
- 01Scaling flat cutout objects
- 02Striped racing road
- 03Layered parallax horizon
Why it happens
Hardware draws each 2D sprite at a size set by its distance from the camera, so approaching objects grow smoothly while the road is drawn as scrolling scanlines.
Recreate it in Pixio
Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image as a 1980s arcade pseudo-3D rush: the camera races forward down a striped road with the horizon fixed, while flat bitmap-style objects grow rapidly from tiny dots to large chunky sprites as they pass the edges. Vivid saturated colors, visible pixels, fast forward speed, four seconds. Keep the original subject and composition.”
