Backlit Animation
A technique where artwork or high-contrast film frames are lit from behind so they glow against a dark ground. Disney’s Tron (1982) used it extensively, turning rotoscoped live action into luminous, neon-edged characters and vehicles.

Spot it
- 01Glowing neon outlines
- 02Flat black background
- 03Translucent luminous color fills
Why it happens
Transparent artwork on a light table or film is exposed with light passing through it, so the colors shine like stained glass instead of reflecting like paint.

Image edit prompt“Restyle this image as backlit animation: render the subject as flat, high-contrast artwork lit from behind, with glowing electric-blue and orange edges, translucent color fills, soft light bloom around the outlines and a pure black background. Add faint circuit-like geometric detail in the surroundings. Keep the original subject and composition.”
