CRT Scanlines
The visible horizontal rows of a cathode-ray-tube screen, where an electron beam draws the picture line by line. Familiar from 1980s televisions, arcade cabinets and home computers, and still imitated in retro games.

Spot it
- 01Fine horizontal dark lines
- 02Glowing, bloomy highlights
- 03Slightly curved screen edges
Why it happens
An electron beam sweeps the phosphor in rows with small gaps between them, and phosphor glow bleeds light outward, producing striped lines and soft bloom.
