Phong Shading
A shading method that gives smooth surfaces glossy highlights. Bui Tuong Phong introduced it in 1973, and its bright specular spot became the look of early computer-rendered plastic and metal.
Spot it
- 01Crisp bright specular highlights
- 02Smooth curved gradients
- 03Glossy plastic look
Why it happens
The renderer interpolates surface normals across each polygon and evaluates ambient, diffuse and specular light per pixel, so highlights appear precisely and tightly.

Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
