Split-Field Diopter
A half-lens that lets both a near and a far subject stay in sharp focus in one shot. Directors such as Brian De Palma made it a trademark of tense 1970s thrillers.

Spot it
- 01Two sharp depth planes
- 02Blurry dividing seam
- 03Dramatic foreground-background tension
Why it happens
The half-circle close-up element adds magnification to one part of the frame so the camera focuses near through it and far through the open half, and the edge blurs.

Image edit prompt“Re-shoot this image with a split-field diopter: a large close subject on one side and a distant subject on the other both appear in sharp focus, with a soft blurred seam in the middle where the half-lens ends, deep dramatic perspective and 1970s thriller color. Keep the original subject and composition.”
