Gouraud Shading
A shading method that blends colors smoothly across polygons. Henri Gouraud introduced it in 1971, a fast way to hide faceting on early computers at the cost of dull highlights.

Spot it
- 01Smooth color gradients
- 02Faint polygon streaks
- 03Soft muted highlights
Why it happens
Lighting is computed only at each vertex, and the renderer interpolates those colors across the face, producing smooth shading but missing small highlights between vertices.

Image edit prompt“Render this image in Gouraud-shaded early computer graphics: low-polygon smooth-shaded surfaces with soft blended color gradients, faint star-shaped streaking at polygon corners, muted blurry highlights, flat colors and a plain dark background. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
