Photocopy Aesthetic
The harsh black-and-white look of repeatedly copied images, used in punk zines, gig flyers and cut-and-paste collage from the mid-1970s onward as a cheap do-it-yourself publishing method.

Spot it
- 01Crushed black-and-white tones
- 02Streaky toner noise
- 03Edge shadows from the glass
Why it happens
A copier's high-contrast exposure turns midtones to black or white and loses detail each generation, while toner streaks, dust and uneven pressure add noise.

Image edit prompt“Turn this image into a worn photocopy: high-contrast black toner on slightly gray paper, crushed midtones, halftone-like speckle, streaky toner lines, dust specks, dark shadow edges where the paper left the glass and a rough cut-and-paste zine feel. Keep the original subject and composition.”
