Non-Local Means Denoising
A denoising method by Buades, Coll and Morel (2005) that averages pixels from anywhere in the image whose surrounding patches look alike. It retains texture better than local blurring.

Spot it
- 01Clean smooth grain-free areas
- 02Preserved repeating textures
- 03Subtle plastic surfaces
Why it happens
Each pixel is replaced by a weighted average of all pixels whose small neighbourhood patches resemble its own, regardless of where they sit in the image.

Image edit prompt“Apply strong non-local means denoising to this image: all grain and noise removed, smooth clean surfaces, repeated textures like fabric and foliage kept coherent, edges crisp, a slightly plastic, over-smoothed finish. Keep the original subject and composition.”
