Gaussian Blur
The most common smoothing filter, which averages neighbouring pixels with a bell-curve weighting. It reduces noise and detail, and underlies depth-of-field simulation, glow effects and many other operations.

Spot it
- 01Soft smooth haze
- 02No hard edges
- 03Even defocused spread
Why it happens
Each pixel becomes a weighted average of its neighbours, where weights follow a Gaussian bell curve so nearby pixels count more than distant ones.

Image edit prompt“Apply a strong Gaussian blur to this image: all edges melted into smooth, even softness, fine detail removed, colors blending gently into each other like a heavily defocused photograph, no streaks or banding. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable as soft shapes.”
