Neural Relighting
The changing of a photograph's lighting after capture by estimating its geometry and materials. Research in the 2020s made it possible to move lights, add rim glow and shift time of day.

- 01Redirected light angle
- 02New cast shadows
- 03Colored rim highlights
Why it happens
A network infers surface orientation, material and the existing illumination from the image, then re-synthesizes how the scene would look under a different light.

Image edit prompt“Relight this image with a new dramatic lighting setup: a strong warm key light from the left, a cool blue rim light from behind, soft shadows falling to the right, deeper contrast and gentle bounce light in the shadows, with every surface responding believably. Keep it photoreal. Keep the original subject and composition.”
