Monocular Depth Map
An estimate of how far each pixel is from the camera, predicted from a single photograph by a trained network. It guides relighting, parallax effects, blur simulation and 3D-aware generation.

Spot it
- 01Bright near, dark far
- 02Smooth gradient surfaces
- 03Soft object silhouettes
Why it happens
A neural network trained on images with known distances infers relative depth for every pixel from cues such as perspective, object size, occlusion and texture gradients.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image into a monocular depth map: grayscale only, with the nearest surfaces pure white and the farthest background black, smooth continuous gradients across floors and walls, and soft clean silhouettes around objects. No texture, shadows or color. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
