Fluid Simulation
Computer-calculated liquid and gas motion used for water, smoke and fire in films and games. Jos Stam's Stable Fluids paper (1999) made it practical, and 2000s visual effects used it for oceans and splashes.

Spot it
- 01Frozen splash crowns
- 02Foam and spray particles
- 03Glassy refracting water
Why it happens
The space is divided into cells and the equations of fluid flow are solved step by step, moving velocity, pressure and density to create realistic swirling and splashing.

Image edit prompt“Re-render this image so that liquid dominates it, as a high-end fluid simulation frozen mid-motion: glassy water with a crisp surface, a splash crown with flying droplets, foam and fine spray, strong refraction and caustic light patterns, and wet glossy highlights on nearby objects. Keep the original subject and composition.”
