Datamoshing
A video glitch where one scene's motion drags the pixels of another, melting images into smeared color. Artists such as Takeshi Murata explored it in the mid-2000s, and music videos later brought it to wider audiences.

Spot it
- 01Melting smeared pixels
- 02Blocky compression squares
- 03Colors bleeding along motion
Why it happens
Removing key frames from compressed video leaves only motion vectors, so new movement is applied to stale pixels from the previous clip instead of refreshing the picture.

Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image as a datamosh: the picture begins stable, then motion vectors drag and smear its pixels in slow rolling trails, blocky macroblock squares appear and freeze, colors bleed and stretch along the movement, then it snaps back near the end. Keep the compression-glitch look. Keep the original subject recognizable throughout.”
