Miniature Faking
A photo trick that makes real places look like tiny toy models by blurring the top and bottom of the frame. It imitates tilt-shift lens photography and spread widely in the 2000s through Photoshop tutorials and photo-sharing sites.

Spot it
- 01Blurred top and bottom bands
- 02Saturated toy-like colors
- 03Elevated high-angle viewpoint
Why it happens
A narrow plane of sharp focus with steep falloff mimics the shallow depth of field seen when photographing very small objects up close, so the brain reads the scene as tiny.

Image edit prompt“Convert this image into a faked miniature scene: strong tilt-shift effect with a thin sharp horizontal band in the middle and heavy smooth blur at top and bottom, boosted saturation, glossy plastic-toy colors, slightly raised high-angle feel and soft even daylight. Make everything look like a hand-built scale model. Keep the original subject and composition.”
