Animated GIF
A looping, short bitmap animation. CompuServe introduced the GIF format in 1987 and its 1989 revision added animation, so it became the web’s standard for tiny silent loops, icons and reaction clips.

Spot it
- 01Seamless short loop
- 02Limited 256-color palette
- 03Coarse dithered gradients
Why it happens
Frames use a palette of at most 256 colors with lossless compression, and a loop flag repeats the sequence indefinitely, producing visible dithering and banding.

Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image as a retro animated GIF: a seamless two-second loop with a small repeating motion, limited 256-color palette, visible dithering and color banding in gradients, a slightly choppy low frame rate around ten frames per second, a fixed camera and a final frame that matches the first. Keep the original subject and composition.”
