Xerographic Animation
Animation drawings copied straight onto cels by a photocopier instead of hand inking. Disney, with Ub Iwerks, used it for One Hundred and One Dalmatians in 1961, giving the film its scratchy outlines.

Spot it
- 01Rough black pencil lines
- 02Flat painted color fills
- 03Scratchy, sketchy contours
Why it happens
A xerographic machine transfers carbon toner from the pencil drawing onto a transparent cel, preserving every sketchy line, and artists paint opaque color on the reverse.
