Match Cut
An edit that joins two shots through a matching shape, motion or position. Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, released in 1968, links a tossed bone to an orbiting spacecraft in the most famous example.

- 02Same screen position
- 03Shifted scene or era
Why it happens
Keeping a shape, direction or composition constant across the cut lets the viewer perceive continuity and compare two otherwise unrelated scenes.

Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image as a match cut: the main shape or object in the frame rotates upward for two seconds, then a hard cut reveals a completely different scene where a similar shape sits in exactly the same position and moves the same way. Keep matching rotation speed and framing. Start from the original subject and composition.”
