Volumetric Light
Visible beams of light that glow through fog, dust or haze, often called god rays. Film and photography have long used it, and 3D engines of the 2000s learned to simulate it for dramatic atmosphere.

Spot it
- 01Visible light shafts
- 02Floating dust particles
- 03Misty glowing air
Why it happens
Light scatters off tiny particles suspended in air, so the path of a beam becomes visible and brightens wherever it passes through the haze.

Image edit prompt“Add volumetric lighting to this image: strong golden sunbeams cutting through thick atmospheric haze, clearly visible light shafts with soft edges, floating dust motes catching the light, a warm glowing bloom around the source and deep contrasty shadows behind objects. Keep it misty and cinematic. Keep the original subject and composition.”
