Rotoscoping
Animators trace over live-action film frame by frame to get lifelike motion. Max Fleischer patented the rotoscope in 1917 and used it in his Out of the Inkwell cartoons.

Spot it
- 01Fluid lifelike movement
- 02Slight line wobble
- 03Flat shapes over real motion
Why it happens
Each frame of live footage is projected onto a drawing surface and traced, preserving natural motion while an artist simplifies the form into line and flat color.

Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image as classic rotoscoped animation: bold ink outlines that wobble slightly from frame to frame, flat shading, simplified shapes and highly natural, lifelike movement. Limited palette, hand-drawn boiling lines, subtle paper texture. Subjects move smoothly for four seconds. Keep the original subject and composition.”
