Cel Animation
Animation drawn on transparent celluloid sheets laid over a painted background, so only the moving parts are redrawn. Earl Hurd patented the method in 1914 and it shaped the cartoon industry.

Why it happens
Characters are inked and painted on clear acetate layers placed over a static background, then photographed together so each frame only needs the changing elements.

Image edit prompt“Redraw this image as a hand-painted animation cel on a painted background: bold inked outlines, flat opaque gouache color fills, a soft watercolor-painted backdrop, slight edge sheen on the celluloid, tiny dust specks and crisp cel shadows. Keep the original subject and composition.”
