Motion Blur
Streaking of moving subjects during a long exposure. Early photographers and filmmakers fought it, but by the 1910s many used it deliberately to express speed, especially in sport and street photography.

Spot it
- 01Streaked directional smears
- 02Sharp static background
- 03Ghosted translucent edges
Why it happens
A moving subject crosses many positions on the film while the shutter is open, so its light is smeared along the path of motion.

Image edit prompt“Add strong directional motion blur to this image: the main subject is smeared horizontally into translucent streaks with a soft ghosted edge, while the background stays sharp. Visible light trails, subtle double edges, the slightly soft contrast of a slow shutter exposure. Keep the original subject and composition.”
