Risograph Registration Error
Risograph duplicators print one ink color per pass, so layers rarely line up perfectly. The offset, overprinted look of these Japanese machines, common since the 1980s, is now a popular zine and poster style.

Spot it
- 01Misaligned ink layers
- 02Fluorescent pink and teal
- 03Overprint dark multiply zones
Why it happens
The image is separated into a few spot-color layers, each shifted by a small random offset and multiplied over the others, so overlaps darken and edges show colored fringes.

Image edit prompt“Render this image as a two-color risograph print: fluorescent pink and teal inks on cream paper, the layers slightly misregistered with visible offset fringes, grainy halftone texture, overprint zones where the inks multiply into deep purple, uneven ink coverage. Keep the original subject and composition.”
