1-Bit Threshold
The simplest binarization: every pixel becomes pure black or pure white depending on a cutoff. It produces stark photocopier-style graphics and is the first step in scanning, stencils and document processing.

Spot it
- 01Pure black and white
- 02Hard posterized shapes
- 03Lost midtone detail
Why it happens
Each pixel's brightness is compared to a single cutoff value; anything above becomes white and everything else becomes black, with no intermediate tones.

Image edit prompt“Turn this image into a high-contrast 1-bit threshold graphic: only pure black and pure white, no grey, bold flat shapes where midtones collapse into solid black or white, crisp jagged edges, like a harsh photocopy or a stencil cutout. Keep the original subject and composition.”
