Polaroid Manipulation
Artists physically altered instant prints while the emulsion was soft, pushing and smearing the image. Lucas Samaras's 1970s Photo-Transformations are well-known examples of the swirling, painterly result.

Spot it
- 01Smeared swirling emulsion
- 02Warped, melted features
- 03Saturated painterly color
Why it happens
Right after development the gelatin layers stay soft, so pressure from a stylus or fingertip drags dye and pushes the image like wet paint.

Image edit prompt“Restyle this image as a manipulated instant print: the soft emulsion is pushed and swirled with a stylus, colors streak and melt into painterly spirals, edges buckle, saturated dye pools gather in corners and a thick white border frames it. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
