ORB Keypoints
A fast, free-to-use feature detector and descriptor introduced in 2011 that combines FAST corners with an oriented version of BRIEF. It matches images in real time and is common in mapping and augmented-reality pipelines.

Spot it
- 01Circles with orientation ticks
- 02Multi-scale ring sizes
- 03Dense on textured areas
Why it happens
Finds FAST corners across an image pyramid, assigns each an orientation from its intensity centroid, and describes it with a rotated binary pattern of pixel comparisons.

Image edit prompt“Draw ORB keypoints on this image: dim the original photo slightly and overlay many thin green circles of varied sizes, each with a short line from center to edge showing its orientation. Circles cluster densely on textured and high-contrast regions and are sparse on smooth areas. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
