Mandelbrot Set
The famous fractal boundary traced by iterating a simple complex-number formula. Benoit Mandelbrot first plotted it at IBM in 1980, and its colorful zooms became a symbol of 1980s computer art and mathematics.

Spot it
- 01Black cardioid body
- 02Spiraling filament tendrils
- 03Banded electric color gradients
Why it happens
Each point c is tested by repeating z = z² + c; points that never escape stay inside, while colors encode how quickly the others diverge.

Image edit prompt“Apply a Mandelbrot-set treatment to this image: weave intricate spiraling fractal filaments and bulbous cardioid shapes through the scene, colored with banded gradients of electric blue, violet, gold and orange against deep black, with tiny repeating copies of the form along the edges. Keep the original subject and composition.”
