Liquify
A digital warping tool that pushes, pulls, twirls and bloats pixels as if the picture were wet paint. Photoshop added its Liquify filter around 2000, and it became a staple of retouching and surreal image distortion.

Spot it
- 01Smooth swirling distortions
- 02Stretched flowing features
- 03Warped straight lines
Why it happens
A mesh over the image is displaced by brush strokes and the pixels are resampled along that deformation, smoothly bending shapes without cutting or tearing them.

Image edit prompt“Apply a heavy liquify distortion to this image as if the pixels were wet paint: swirling pushes and pulls, elongated stretching in some areas, bulging pinches in others, and bent straight edges that flow smoothly with no tearing. Keep textures continuous and slightly smeared where the warp is strongest. Keep the original subject and composition.”
