Contour Extraction
The tracing of boundaries between regions into ordered lists of points, popularized by Satoshi Suzuki and Keiichi Abe's border-following algorithm of 1985. It turns binary shapes into outlines used for measuring, counting and recognizing objects.

Spot it
- 01Closed colored outlines
- 02Nested inner contours
- 03Black or darkened ground
Why it happens
Scans a binary image for boundary pixels and follows each border around its shape, recording connected points and the nesting relationship between outer shapes and holes.

Image edit prompt“Show extracted contours of this image: on a dark background, draw closed, continuous outlines around every distinct shape and region as medium-weight lines, outer contours in bright green and inner holes in orange. Keep the shapes simplified and clean, with no fill. Keep the original subject and composition recognizable.”
