Charcoal Contours
An edge-detection look that draws only the strongest outlines in thick, smudgy dark strokes. It echoes charcoal drawing and is used for dramatic, graphic stylization of portraits and landscapes.

Spot it
- 01Thick smudged outlines
- 02Dark on cream paper
- 03Gritty grainy strokes
Why it happens
Gradient magnitudes are computed with an edge detector, thresholded and thickened, then inverted onto light paper and roughened with noise so lines look dragged and smeared.

Image edit prompt“Render this image as a charcoal drawing: bold, thick black contour lines along the strongest edges, smudged soft shadows, gritty grain breaking up the strokes, cream-colored textured paper, no color and no fine detail. Keep the original subject and composition.”
